Memory Traces is a photo-book, composed to be a mental experience, dealing with notions on landscape, culture, history and memory. In Memory Traces landscape-photography is combined with a multi-layered range of texts including excerpts from travelogues, written photographs and Höffding Step, a short story situated in the art-world. This semi-thriller reflects on the Artification of Photography and on the End of Silver-based Photography.
In Dark Star, a second booklet, a Chernobyl family-album has been compiled from a roll of negatives found in a evacuated and looted house near the site of the exploded Reactor 4. The large format photographs in the main Photo-book were made in Sarajevo; Hiroshima and Nagasaki; Berlin, Bitterfeld-Wolfen and Ronneburg; Bikini Island and Nam Island; Chernobyl; Khe San and My Lai.
Memory Traces was selected as one of 124 seminal Dutch photobooks since 1945 as published in The Dutch Photobook (NAi Publishers/Aperture 2012) and was selected as one of Photo-Eye's best photobooks of 2009 by Marcus Schaden.
