The Nederlands Fotomuseum is the only institution in the Netherlands to have a dedicated photography restoration studio. The studio looks after the Fotomuseum collection as well as those of other museums, individuals, archives and commercial organisations.  This makes them experts in the field.

The restoration studio currently only maintains its own museum collection and does not work for third parties

Research
The restoration studio carries out independent research, belongs to international university and museum networks and participates in projects to contribute to the further development of the relatively new discipline of photography restoration.  One of the department’s areas of specialisation is working with daguerreotypes, negatives and photography albums.  They also have a specialist library, which can be consulted by prior appointment, and regularly publish their own articles, online dossiers and other papers.
