The Nederlands Fotomuseum can provide photographs for publication in newspapers, magazines and books as well as for exhibitions.
The museum manages the archives of some 80 Dutch photographers. This involves the conservation of the archives and in many instances also the management of copyright. We can grant licenses to use photographs from the collection, and supply high-resolution images suitable for publication.
Applying for a copyright license
If you would like to use any photographs from the collection in your publication, please send your request to fotoverkoop@nederlandsfotomuseum.nl, clearly explaining the purpose and nature of the publication, circulation, duration and format. We will then email a copyright form to you. Once we have your agreement to the terms of use, we will send you the permission and high-resolution images.
Search and send service
Can’t find the photograph you’re after in our online image library? You can check to see if it is in the museum’s collection. Our image research team can carry out a search on your behalf. Please email fotoverkoop@nederlandsfotomuseum.nl and tell us what you are looking for, providing as much information as possible – names, places, dates etc. If we can identify the photograph(s) you are looking for, they may be sent to you on approval. An extensive search will incur an additional fee, of which we will inform you before starting the search.
Digitising negatives and/or prints
The charge for converting negatives and/or prints into high-resolution (300 dpi) images suitable for publication is €21 per image.

Using images in academic papers
In most cases, the use of photographic material from our collection for an essay or dissertation will not incur copyright charges, provided the paper meets the following criteria:
- It forms part of an academic study programme
- It will not be made available for purchase
- Its circulation will not exceed five copies
- It will only feature photographs from the museum’s online image library.
All photographs must be expressly acknowledged as follows:
“©Name of photographer / Nederlands Fotomuseum”
We would kindly request that you send us a copy of your paper for our own library.
