The department of Conservation and Restoration
of the Nederlands Fotomuseum conserves and restores photographic
material and provides advice about archival storage materials. It is
responsible for the collection of the Nederlands Fotomuseum as well as
for photography collections belonging to other museums and archives,
companies and private persons. The department of Conservation and
Restoration, to which the atelier belongs, also undertakes independent
research and takes part in international university and museum networks
and projects. The department is particularly specialised in dealing
with daguerreotypes, negatives and photographic albums.

advice
The department provides advice on preserving and managing
colections of photographs, on cold storage, for example, or on
improving storage conditions. You can come to us for a random look at
the physical state of your collection of photographs (Quickscan). The
department is also setting up a collection and educational plan
regarding the handling of fragile photographic materials and organising

department can be of assistance to owners, insurance companies and
advice bureaus in cases of fire and water damage

As a private individual you can have your family photographs and
albums preserved, or ask advice. It doesn’t matter if it is a single

before turning up.
