The library contains more than 11,000 titles dealing not only with with photographers, but also the history and theory of photography and the preservation of photographs. The museum subscribes to over 60 Dutch and foreign photography and has an extensive collection of documentation on photographers, consisting mainly of press material. The library does not lend out material but photocopies can be made for a small fee and there is a scanner available.

The library collection largely comes from the Nederlands Fotoinstitute, but other organisations that have merged with the Nederlands Fotomuseum have also contributed to the collection. The library will shortly be supplemented with the specialist library belonging to Jan van Dijk, teacher of the course Determining historical photographic processes. An appointment is needed to consult this collection.

In the Museum Library section of this website, you can consult the library catalogue. Via the Photography Libraries page various collections of photography books from different Dutch organisations can be searched. There is also the possibility of searching in the museum’s database of photographers, which is where the museum lists the most important information about photographers – this page is called Search Photographers. More extensive information about photographers in the collection of the Nederlands Fotomuseum can be found in the section Photographers Dossiers. The pages mentioned here can be directly clicked to via the link list on the right at the top of this page.
opening hours
The museum library is open Tuesday to Friday 13.00 to 17.00. It is closed from Saturday to Monday and on 1 January, 30 April, and during Easter, Whitsun and Christmas holidays.
