Telling Stories
16.APR.2006_05.JUN.2006 An overview exhibition about the photographic oeuvre of the Dutch photographer Wallrafen spanning more than three decades. Wallrafen has played a very important role within the Dutch history of photography due to his documentary photography. In 2004 he lost his sight to an hereditary illness, putting an abrupt end to his career as a photographer. Now he has turned to the world of sound. These sound projects possess a very intensive visual power.
Hannes Wallrafen is one of the Dutch photographers who developed from an engaged black and white documentary photographer to a photographer who translated these ideological points of departure and idealism into a new form of engaged colour photography. In 2004 Wallrafen lost his sight to an hereditary illness, putting an abrupt end to his career as a photographer. This radical event has been the reason for organising a retrospective exhibition about his photographic oeuvre spanning more than three decades. Sound will play an important role in the exhibition in various ways – in part because Wallrafen regards this ‘medium’ as crucial for his artistic future.
A publication with cd and DVD will accompany the exhibition € 39,95. Curator: Flip Bool; design, Lies Ros. ![]() |
