Sarah Engelhard

Sarah Engelhard (1980) photographs the dead animals she finds in the street, especially road kill like buzzards, ducks, hares, mice and foxes, that have been run over.

With a lot of precision and respect she places them under a 6 by 7 medium format camera and makes the utmost detailed ‘portraits’ in realistic colours. The animal photo’s excel in a combination of beauty, intimacy and tragedy. Sarah Engelhard was educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and now studies biology and marine ecology. Science inspires her artistic work.
